Oceanside Glasstile 2016 Year in Review: New Products, Acquisitions and Philanthropy

2016 was a game changer for the art glass and glass tile industries. In addition to five amazing product releases, Oceanside Glasstile completed asset acquisitions of two art glass companies that had closed their doors. By acquiring the equipment, product formulas and knowledge of how to produce art glass we all get to see the art glass industry live on and flourish. In addition to product and company growth, the Oceanside Glasstile team was excited to serve our community as the Oceanside Glasstile Cancer Kickers cycling and volunteer team at Padres Pedal the Cause. Scroll down to read more about the exciting 2016 Oceanside Glasstile milestones.

5 Product Releases

Every year we look forward to dazzling designers, architects, builders and installers with new products. We spend months, sometimes years, perfecting the right design and product quality for each release. Here are the products we introduced to the market in 2016.

1. The Kinship Collection in partnership with Island Stone

Anchored in beach culture and driven by a passion to create unique, beautiful designs, Island Stone and Oceanside Glasstile paired the best of their offerings to create a stunning combination of premium stone and jewel-like glass. The collection uses four of Island Stone's natural products: grey sandstone, mint sandstone, silver quartzite and white marble in combination with complimenting glass tiles. Read more about the collection here. Order a sample by choosing your favorite pattern and colors on our Blend Tool and then filling out our Sample Request Form.

2. Three Antique Mirror Colors for the Devotion Collection: Helios, Astral and Nocturne

The Devotion Collection is no stranger to bold color, glittering movement and intricate details. On crafting the collection, Oceanside Glasstile Designer Cathy Aroz comments "I really love working with the antique mirrors. Each color shines its own personality into the design. Some patterns need just a touch of mirror to bring a little fire to the project while others can go bolder and bigger, creating an element of drama that will literally take your breath away." To complement the existing pallets, Cathy added Nocturne, Helios and Astral for truly creative and courageous designers. Read more about the collection here. Order a sample by choosing your favorite pattern and colors on our Blend Tool and then filling out our Sample Request Form.

3. Scallop Pattern for the Devotion Collection

[gallery ids="1365,2634,2644" type="square"]

Creatively adapted from the shape of sea scapes and seashells, Oceanside Glasstile released the Scallop Pattern for the Devotion Collection to expand design options for art glass lovers. This fun pattern allows one to highlight traditional Devotion Collection colors with a border of intriguing color or reflection. Use our Blend Tool to blend your own colors into this fabulous pattern. Request a sample of your favorite Pattern and Color combination here.

4. Three glass tile colors plus three blends for the Muse, Tessera, Facets, Casa California and Elevations Collections: Nalu, Kai and Koa plus Puna, Kalani and Mauna

[gallery ids="1557,1555,1556" type="square"]

Created with the intention of expanding our glass color palette to facilitate the creation of seamless gradients, these three new colors were also used to create three new blends. Inspired by the calm Hawaiian shores, each color and blend name reflects the beauty of Hawaii's natural elements that can be transported into any design project for a calming, nature driven effect. Read about the origin behind the names here. Craft your own tile pattern and color combination on our Blend Tool, then request a sample of it here.

5. Repose Pattern created for Muse and Tessera Collections

[gallery ids="2661,2664,2666" type="square"]

Oceanside Glasstile thoughtfully crafted the Repose Pattern as a nod to Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie Architecture movement. Simply stunning, this pattern has everything it needs and nothing it doesn't. The Repose Pattern can be adapted into a liner or combined with iridescent colors to create brilliant hues that radiate a humble beauty. Read more about this versatile pattern and see inspiration photos here. Create your own Repose Pattern color combination on our Blend Tool and then request a sample of your creation with our Sample Request Form.

2 Art Glass Acquisitions

In 2016 two art glass manufacturing companies decided to close their doors: Spectrum Art Glass and Uroboros. As an art glass customer, Oceanside Glasstile wondered how we would be able to continue our Devotion Collection without the beautiful glass produced by these companies. In a serendipitous turn of events, Oceanside Glasstile was able to purchase the assets of these companies to carry on their legacy as the new manufacturer and supplier of the same high quality glass that artists need to craft stunning art pieces. $41,153.11 Raised for Cancer Research

Each year the Oceanside Glasstile staff participates in the Padres Pedal the Cause cycling fundraiser as the Oceanside Glasstile Cancer Kickers to raise funds for cancer research in San Diego. 100% of the Oceanside Glasstile staff participated as volunteers or cyclists and 100% of the money we raised went directly to cancer research programs. In 2016 we rode for Myer and the Super Boy Crew. Thank you to David Fatula, our Technical Services Manager for leading our team and organizing this amazing effort. Want to help us raise more money for cancer research in 2017? Send an email to techservices@glasstile.com and we will add you to our notification email that will be sent in the fall prior to the event.
